Trulle

TSI Trulle is a student oriented sea kayaking club based out of UiT The Arctic University in Tromsø Norway. Our club caters to students and non-students alike. 

Much of our communication is via Spond. Spond is a club administration app commonly used in Norwegian sports clubs. We are using Spond for planning trips, events and general communication.

Membership

We require that you are a member to use our kayaks, boathouse, gear or join our courses and events. Membership is easy!

 

Boat House

Our boathouse is one of a kind! A large spacious and, dare say it, authentic Norwegian wood house is situated on the shores of the westside of Tromsø Island, just south of the airport. We provide kayaks to rent, spaces to rent for your kayak and kayaking accessories (paddle, PFD, spray skirt). We also rent out drysuits. See out boathouse and gear page for more information

 

Courses

Trulle offers basic and intermediate sea kayaking courses at student friendly prices. All of our instructors are certified through the Norwegian Padling Foundation. Our courses run based off demand and instructor availibility. See our calendar and course page for more information

Kayaks can be used by members only. Use of kayaks for day trips (<24hrs) is free for all members.

This rental fee applies per kayak and per day for multiday trips (>24 hrs). You must also “contact us” to check that it’s ok to take the kayaks out for an extended period, the request will be denied if we expect that all of the club boats will be needed for courses and other organised activities BUT we have enough kayaks that we can accomodate your requests in 99.9% of cases so start planning that dream paddling adventure now!

Kayak storage can be arranged in our boathouse for members. Contact naust@trulle.no for availability before purchasing. Kayak storage needs to be renewed every year or semester through paying this fee.

Boathouse key

You have to have a Våttkort (issued by NPF or your course instructor) or equivalent skills (approved by one of the Trulle’s instructors) to be allowed to order a key to the boathouse. You can select pick up options (UiT campus or Trulle boathouse) during checkout. If you order key and are registered to take a course with Trulle shortly, your course instructor will provide you with a key at the end of the course.

Daily rental fee for club drysuits. Please read instructions below!

Drysuits are collected from the boathouse and should be rinsed with fresh water and hung up to dry at the end of the trip. There is a water tank outside the boathouse on the southwestern corner. Note there is no reservation system, if there were no suits left and you’ve already paid the rental fee you may use a suit another day. Please return all paddling equipment as soon as you’re done using it and try to keep things tidy in the way that you would personally like to find them ;)

***Remember to remove your watch and any sharp jewelry/ear rings as these can easily damage the drysuit seals when you are putting it on.

***Never walk around in a drysuit without neoprene (or other) shoes on as the drysuit socks get damaged very easily.

This is a Basic sea kayaking course which will take place on the 14-15 June on Tromsøya (from the Trulle boathouse). You have to be a member of TSI and Trulle to participate in the course.

NB! We will send out an email to participants on Thursday 12th with additional information. Most important preparation for the cource: Make sure you have a enough warm clothes to have underneath the dry suit.

Welcome to a weekend trip to the Molnes cabin!

From Saturday 28. to 29. of June we invite you to a kayaking trip going to one of the nearby rental cabins. The Molnes cabin is owned by Tromsø JFF, is located on Kvaløya on the eastern part of Kaldfjord (69.76034N, 18.71614E), and has beds for 10 people.

To get there, we will load the trailer with the kayaks at the TSI Trulle boathouse and drive for about 30 minutes to the starting point. From this point, there is about 4 km of paddling to the cabin. At the cabin, we will prepare dinner and otherwise enjoy the evening. The following day, we will have breakfast, clear out and clean the cabin, and then paddle back to the cars.

Who can participate?

This trip is expected to be manageable for all who have tried kayaking a few times. Marius is an activity leader which means that you can participate without having a Våtkort / EPP2. 

However, as always, the weather conditions (i.e the wind) determine the challenge. The planned route is exposed to rougher seas, and the water temperature is expected to (still) be about 10 degrees Celsius. There is a longer alternative route (10 km), but likely more protected. We will do an evaluation of the conditions at the boathouse. 

Practical information

We meet at the TSI Trulle boathouse at 13.00 on Saturday the 28 of june. The expected arrival back at the boathouse on Sunday the 29 of june is 18.00, although there might be delays or wishes from the group to extend the trip a bit. The fee for the trip is set to 250 NOK, which covers cabin and equipment rental, transport, dinner, breakfast (likely oatmeal), and a bit of snacks.  

The participants will receive an email about a week in advance regarding any further needed information. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us!

  • Sleeping bag

  • Clothes to kayak in (wool underwear is likely still preferable, depending on the air temperature)

  • Spare clothes (in case of capsizing)

  • Jacket

  • Cap/hat

  • Sunscreen and sunglasses (in case of sunshine)

  • Toiletries (only outdoor toilet at the cabin) 

  • Waterbottle

  • Lunch for both days

  • 1-2 drybags to pack your stuff in the kayak (only if you have one.Trulle has some too)
